How Many Wars Is the US Really Fighting? |

This year, US Special Operations forces have already deployed to 135 nations, according to Ken McGraw, a spokesman for Special Operations Command (SOCOM). Thatââ¬â¢s roughly 70 percent of the countries on the planet. Every day, in fact, Americaââ¬â¢s most elite troops are carrying out missions in 80 to 90 nations, practicing night raids or sometimes conducting them for real, engaging in sniper training or sometimes actually gunning down enemies from afar. As part of a global engagement strategy of endless hush-hush operations conducted on every continent but Antarctica, they have now eclipsed the number and range of special ops missions undertaken at the height of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

<div>US Suppressed Footage of Hiroshima for Decades
Â
Self-censorship happens when individual editors decide not to run photographs or footage of casualties because they deem them "too shocking" for readers or because they wish to avoid controversy or criticism.
Â
"So much of the media is owned by big corporations and they would much rather focus on making money than setting themselves up for criticism from the White House and Congress," said Ralph Begleiter, a former CNN correspondent, now a journalism professor at the University of Delaware.

You should welcome it into your mind
Â
The use of technology to track and treat mental illness is deeply worrying but sadly necessaryÂ
Â
Next week, Dr Tom Insel leaves his post as head of the US National Institute of Mental Health, a job that made him Americaââ¬â¢s top mental health doctor. Dr Insel is a neuroscientist and a psychiatrist and a leading authority on both the medicine and public policies needed to deal with problems of the mind. Heââ¬â¢s 64 but heââ¬â¢s not retiring. Heââ¬â¢s going to work for Google.
Â
More precisely, heââ¬â¢s going to work for Google Life Sciences, one of the more exotic provinces of the online empire. Heââ¬â¢s going to investigate how technology can help diagnose and treat mental health conditions. Google doesnââ¬â¢t just want to read your mind, it wants to fix it too.Â
