White House allowing up to 250,000 more Syrian refugees

White House Refugee Plan Overwhelmed by Syrian Exodus

Wednesday at the White House, the most senior national security officials will discuss raising the limit on the number of refugees from around the world allowed to enter the United States -- from 70,000 this year to 85,000 next year and 100,000 in fiscal 2017, three administration officials told me. If members of the National Security Council Principals Committee agree on the plan, it will be sent to President Obama’s desk, and administration sources say he is likely to quickly approve it.

A police force today spent hundreds of pounds giving a patrol car and a motorbike a colourful makeover in rainbow colours ahead of a gay pride parade.

The two Sussex Police vehicles have each been decorated with graphics showing rainbows, brightly coloured stars with the word 'Pride' so they can be part of the Brighton Pride parade.

If you can afford fags, you can afford e-cigarettes.

Indeed, this is just one more illustration of an all-too-familiar foible of our new ruling classes: if they disapprove of something (fox-hunting, incandescent lightbulbs, smoking in pubs) they ban it. if they approve (condoms for schoolchildren, books extolling the joys of EU membership etc) they think the state, or rather taxpayers, should provide it.

In this case, the only unusual feature is that they have swung so abruptly from wanting to outlaw e-cigarettes to proposing to dish them out free.
