Yeah, that is an old article. Now, 14 years, much spending, and many laws later, where exactly is the country headed with this crazy greed? Those disinformation techniques and all the new tech have come a long way. That means greed isn't the only factor in all this.

It isn't just the greed, it's the methods of control that have been implemented. Those missing dollars had to go somewhere.

 

This is George Orwell kind of stuff. If you thought that book was just science fiction as a kid, think again!
