Post Modern: The Psychology of a Party School - MrChips - 06-09-2022 One common criticism of the Princeton Review rankings is the simplicity of the questions posed to students who participated. Thomas Vander Ven, however, took a slightly different approach to his research.  When collecting data for his recently published book, Getting Wasted: Why College Students Drink Too Much and Party So Hard, Vander Ven focused on the rationale behind studentsââ¬â¢ alcohol tendencies rather than their guestimated levels of consumption.  http://www.npr.org/2011/08/17/139713669/explaining-why-students-love-getting-wasted  His research involved a qualitative study including about 400 students. Vander Ven asked open-ended questions ââ¬â such as ââ¬ÅWhy do you drink?ââ¬Â ââ¬â in an attempt to encourage students to reflect on their habits.  Many students responded that they drink to lower inhibitions. Others reported that alcohol allows them to be their ââ¬Årealââ¬Â selves.  http://www.thepostathens.com/culture/post-modern-the-psychology-of-a-party-school/article_6786c281-8424-5606-8eee-429ca3c444a0.html  More specifically, non-drinkers would be considered an out-group because they are not participating in the normative behavior of alcohol use. Subsequently, students who enter college determined to remain non-drinkers often give into peer pressure in order to become a part of the in-group (Borsari & Carey, 2001).  This article offers a couple of intervention policies. This has always beens so. The war is much bigger than what is seen on the surface. It's a battle between our God given better nature of humanity and the devil filled cake of sin and despair.  EAT & DRINK! We also know that some of the biggest names in American history have belonged to a fraternity or sorority, and the Greek GPA is higher than the overall undergraduate GPA at most universities. Yet, despite these positive aspects of Greek life, sororities and fraternities can't seem to shake the stereotypes and reputations for hazing and buying their friends. Regardless of what you think you know about Greek-letter organizations, these 15 frightening facts prove there's more to fraternities and sororities than meets the eye.  http://www.zencollegelife.com/15-frightening-facts-about-sororities-and-fraternities/  Post Modern: The Psychology of a Party School - Guest - 10-11-2022 Quote:giggity Now what kind of thought does that invoke on the consumer mind. What are kids paying attention to these days? The pressure and dazzle of our consumer society seems to cause disassociation coupled with dissatisfaction when artificial needs are not met. Now they're in debt. Owned by the system and they're own addictions. Does the system enable these addictions? After all it does provide products for the side effects of side effects...is this good in the long term?
